A clip from the upcoming film The Hunger Games.
And now I think it’s time for me to start rereading the series.
The Artist (2011)
It’s just so good.

4) Devil (2010)
So little known fact about me (or not so little if you actually know me)….sometimes I like to watch god awful movies. This movie is case and point. I already knew the twist going in so that probably didn’t help but there were many other qualities that made this a horrible film. Hopefully this will be one of the many movies that I watch and then forget about seeing until I see it a couple months later on HBO.
My top films of 2011…a few days late….
1. Hugo
2. Midnight in Paris
3. Super 8
4. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
5. Bridesmaids
6. 50/50
7. The Help
8. The Tree of Life
9. Drive
10. Hanna
The following are films I haven’t seen yet but I feel I would add to the list in place of some others…

3) War Horse (2011) Directed by Steven Spielberg
I liked the movie overall but I feel like there was a lot of story that could have been cut and/or was overtly cheesy (even for Spielberg). And I don’t necessarily know if this is a criticism or a compliment but I felt like there were a lot of moments that were intended to “trick” you into feeling a certain way, I suppose. With most films the directors lay out a scene and hope that you react, emotionally, the way that they intend. This film however felt like everyone in the audience knew when to cry or laugh and that’s either Spielberg showing off his mastery in the craft of film to get a desired reaction or a cheap ploy to earn award recognition. Either way, mission accomplished, sir.

2) Elizabeth (1998) Directed By Shekhar Kapur
This is one of those films that I have been meaning to watch for some time now but always put it off. Now that I have seen it, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Cate Blanchett has always been one of my favorite actresses and I just loved her performance in this. She portrayed a perfect balance between power, dignity and grace.
365 Days of Film
1) The Tree of Life Written/Directed by Terrence Malick
This film was great but I almost feel like I need a full nights sleep and a lengthy discussion with fellow viewers to get a real sense on how this movie affected me. As for right now, I would probably give it a 4 out of 5. I would probably also add it to my top ten films of 2011…..as soon as I get around to compiling that list…..
